Senior End User Engineer (Virtual Desktop)

  • Serve as the VUMC IT Desktop Engineering virtual technical support for the VUMC IT Enterprise in support of over 30,000 Virtual Machines in 2 data centers.

  • Sustain the Virtual Environment.

  • Support major incidents pertaining to Virtual infrastructure.

Requirements:

Must have 5+ years’ experience at the Enterprise level with experience using the following:

Active Directory

Understand Change Management/ITSM processes

Scripting/PowerShell

Support all Windows OS versions

MS Office proficiency

Responsibilities:

  • Performing daily system monitoring.

  • Support on- call rotations.

  • Performing advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis to expedite incident resolution.

  • Develop scripts to gain efficiencies for reporting and automating repetitive tasks.

  • Proficient in VMware Horizon Suite.

  • Develop vROPs for VMware Horizon View reports for performance, troubleshooting and capacity planning.

  • Provisioning and cloning virtual machines as needed.

  • Maintaining and restoring virtual machine snapshots.

  • Support upgrade requests and apply monthly security patches to the virtual desktop images.

  • Responding to support calls both during and after business hours / weekends / holidays / shutdowns.

  • Update standard operations documentation, operating procedures and user guides.

  • Collaborating with customers, application owners, and other teams as necessary for projects, tasks and customer support.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related discipline and 5 years of VMware engineering experience or have a minimum of 10 years of experience using VMware Horizon Suite.

  • Able to pass VUMC background checks, preferred a Public Trust clearance.

  • Certifications: VMware-Certified Professional (VCP7-DTM)

  • Experience:

  • vRealize Operations (vROPs) for VMware Horizon View.

  • 2 years of hands-on experience with PowerShell and other scripting languages.

  • Knowledge of load balancing, Disaster recovery and high availability.

  • Interpersonal skills including the ability to collaborate effectively, self-awareness, and excellent written and oral communications.

  • Drive efficient resolution of all incidents through analytical and structured approaches to problem solving.

  • In-depth understanding of Active Directory, DNS and other Windows core services.

  • Ability:

  • Learn new products and technologies.

  • Research solutions for various business needs and technical problems; this includes evaluating alternatives and providing recommendations.

Preferred Experience:

  • Antivirus technology

  • Workstation virtualization technology, such as VMware or Hyper-V

  • WorkSpace One

  • AirWatch

Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent experience) and 5 years experience
